About us

Where we are

We are situated at the top of the beautiful Rhondda valley, in a small town called Treherbert, traditionally a mining community. The area is steeped in history and national heritage, is home to world renown geological interest, and some amazing wildlife - which we believe to be greatly underrecorded.

Alexandra Hall

Hi, I'm Alex. Born and raised in the beautiful Welsh Valleys of South Wales, I am very grateful for the nature we have on our doorstep, and I am passionate about connecting people with this fantastic landscape. A particular passion of mine is bats, and I recently started working at the Bat Conservation Trust as Bat Groups Officer for Wales. Prior to this, I spent seven years as an ecologist in an engineering consultancy, where I gained my Welsh and English bat licenses. I have been fortunate to volunteer with conservation organizations in the UK and overseas, and if you ever want me to talk to you about bats in Mexico, I become very excited!

I have a passion for people and wildlife working together, and my continuing adventure of parenthood further fuels my desire to make nature accessible to all and for us to be stewards of this precious planet. I enjoy working in a more public-facing role with people and value others' views and skills, which we can share for common causes.

I am thrilled to also be working part-time at Craig Y Rhondda to further establish ourselves and what we can offer. I look forward to seeing where this adventure will take us. Croeso!

Ethan Hall

Hello, I'm Ethan. Originally from Surrey, now living in the lovely countryside of the south Wales valleys. I have a passion for British wildlife, especially birds, and a particular interest in the impact of climate change on our ecosystems. I have been a secondary school science teacher for 5 years and before that I studied zoology at Cardiff University. I've been so lucky to get to experience birds such as pied flycatchers in Wales and storm petrels in Portugal actually in my hand! I'm excited to share my knowledge and love for the natural world with new people of any age.
